Wiel Arets was born in Heerlen in the Netherlands in 1955. Graduated of Technische Universiteit in Eindhoven in 1983, he sets up the studio Wiel Arets Architect & Associates in 1984, before moving to Maastricht in 1996.

He is very implied in his various missions of teaching throughout the world. His is philosophy is very simple, even austere, but is softened by the transparency, the light and the reflexions thanks to a very sophisticated use of materials.
